Joseph was born as the son of a famous violinist, Adam, and the single child of the family. His father sternly insists that he be a violinist like him, while he aspires to a career in medicine. At the age of 17, Joseph loses both his parents in a house fire. All there remains from the fire are the violin, which his father wouldn’t even let anyone see, and a few belongings. After the death of his family, Joseph stops playing the violin, wishing to become a doctor and devote himself to science and helping people. He takes this path in his school life, and never takes the violin out of its case, which he sees as a token of his respect for his father. At the age of 66, he is now a successful scientist and spent his life working for people to have a healthier life, but he wants more. This obsession has taken over his whole life, and he can't think of anything else. One day, he goes to Missouri for a business trip, and while staying at a small motel, a well-dressed man visits him and offers him the chance of a lifetime. He says he worked on something that would rejuvenate and enable people to live for decades, and the only thing he wants in return is for Joseph to play his father’s violin for him every day. Despite finding it very odd, Joseph still accepts the offer. This is how Morningstar gets Joseph to replace his father and condemns him to play his violin. People are getting younger, but also more evil. Joseph has failed to escape his fate as Adam's son and created a world full of bad sons.
